Our Story
Founded in 1976 and now proudly managed by the second generation, S.J. Thomas Company Inc. is a family-owned general construction and management company located in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania.
Stephen J. Thomas established the company as a residential contractor, starting from his home in Drexel Hill, PA. Initially performing small repairs, the business quickly expanded into larger renovations and additions. During these early years, the core principles of exceptional service and quality craftsmanship were embedded into the company’s mission—a commitment that continues to define our operations.
In 1981, with a growing base of satisfied clients, S.J. Thomas Company broadened its scope to include smaller commercial projects. This led to the company’s first federal government contract with the Department of Defense in Philadelphia. These early projects laid the foundation for long-term relationships with our valued partners, including our bonding company, accounting firm, lending institution, and—most importantly—our customers.
By 1984, S.J. Thomas Company had officially incorporated and shifted focus toward federal contracts, establishing itself as one of the area’s most respected federal contractors. In 1985, we were awarded one of the first Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts in Philadelphia, through the General Services Administration (GSA)—a partnership that remains strong today.
